Do you ever feel depressed after scrolling past pictures on the internet? Do you start to feel that your life and your body are not as perfect as the images you see online, in magazines, on tv shows? We are surrounded by images daily that can interfere with our feelings of self-worth and positive body image. Today’s tips will help you enjoy the beautiful body that you have, no matter what part of your health journey you’re on!
Start With Gratitude
Appreciate what your body can do. The human body keeps us alive, thinking, breathing, moving and growing closer to our dreams and goals everyday! Practice daily gratitude by choosing one body part that you are grateful for, and saying thank you. For example, “Thank you for my strong legs that help me run and hike!” It’s amazing how different we can start to feel by being grateful for the body we have.
Comparison Is The Thief Of Joy
Everybody’s body is different and what healthy looks like on each person will vary greatly. Someone may be tall, petite, curvy or muscular and all of these body types can be healthy. You’ll never be happy with the body you have if you are constantly comparing yourself with others. So instead, embrace what makes you unique and wonderful!
Move Your Body
Exercise has been scientifically shown to boost our mood, and the small or large accomplishments that come with exercise can help us feel stronger and more confident. Whether you enjoy a gym workout, a long walk, yoga or playing in the park with your dog, get moving in a way that works for you. You’ll soon notice how much better you feel!
Wear Clothes That Are Comfortable & You Feel Good In
You do not have to wear the latest fashion trend. You’re welcome. Wear what you love and what makes you feel beautiful! Even if that’s socks and sandals… hey, they’re your feet!
Surround Yourself With Positive People
If you’re around people who are constantly complaining about their weight, how they look, what other people look like or what they or other people are eating, this energy can leave you feeling down on yourself too. Instead, try to surround yourself with people who have a positive attitude about life and their bodies. We do not have to love every detail about our body to love and be kind to it!
Dump The Scale
Are you addicted to weighing yourself? Does your mood change depending on the number you see on the scale? Then I say, dump the scale! Your are worth way more than what a scale says or the size of your clothing. If you do have weight loss goals, try and focus on other indicators for progress such as how you FEEL. Do you notice that you have more energy? Are you more comfortable in your clothes? Do you feel happier? A healthy lifestyle is a holistic whole body approach and a number on a scale can not take into account all of the healthy choices or changes that you’ve made. Plus muscle weighs more than fat, and if you’re working out and increasing muscle mass, this can mess with the scale, which can mess with your mind. Dump the scale.
Remind Yourself That Health Is A Lifelong Journey
We will all face times in our lives where our body is not how we want it to be. Weight fluctuations are simply a part of life, and it’s okay to not have that “ideal bikini body” year-round, or ever. Aim to make healthy choices you feel good about, that you enjoy, and be proud of yourself!
Your body is amazing just as it is! Embrace it. Be Kind to It. Celebrate all that it can do!
